The Future of Fashion: IBM Watson x Tommy Hilfiger
One of the most exciting examples of AI in fashion is the collaboration between FIT, IBM Watson, PVH, and Tommy Hilfiger. This partnership explored how AI can enhance decision-making across the entire fashion value chain, from design and manufacturing to retail.
The collaboration brought together a diverse team of research scientists, consultants, and marketing leaders from IBM, alongside executives from PVH and Tommy Hilfiger, and faculty and students from FIT. Together, they created some truly groundbreaking innovations.
The Plaid Tech Jacket - a piece of outerwear with a twist. It features a removable plaid panel made from colour-changing fibre, allowing it to transform from a classic plaid to a sleek, colour-blocked rain jacket with ease. Then there’s the Solar Active™ Dress, which uses solar colour-changing materials and AI-driven colour trend analysis. This garment not only reflects current trends but is shaped by them, with AI referencing three years of Tommy Hilfiger’s catalogue to determine its palette.
The collaboration illustrates how AI is already transforming the fashion industry, blending the past and future to create garments that are as meaningful as they are stylish.
